1968 Concorde Yachts Color Magazine Ad
In the 1960's Owens Yacht Company became a division of Brunswick Corp. Then Brunswick sold the business to Test Concorde. They made yachts under the name Owens Concorde Yachts. Their yachts ranged from 27' to 47'. In 1974 they ran into financial trouble and ceased production. The boats featured in this ad are 27'- 33'- 35' & 40. 1979 Henry R Hinckley Yachts Magazine Ad
Company started in 1928 by Benjamin Hinckley in Southwest Harbor, Maine. Son Henry took over in 1932. The first boat was a 36' fisherman "Ruthyeolyn". 1938 the first sailboat made was a 40' Islander. 1931 Hudson Essex Touring Car Magazine Ad
The Hudson Car Co was based in Detroit Michigan from 1909-1954. The car was named after J L Hudson a Detroit business man who provided start up money for the company. The goal of the company was to make a car that would sell for under $1000. The Hudson co was known for many innovative firsts in the auto industry including dual brakes, generator warning lights, crankshafts and more. 1960 Volkswagen VW Bug Car Magazine Ad
The word Volkswagen means "people car." In 1930 cost of cars was an issue in Germany as many cost more than a year's salary. When Hitler came into power in 1938 he asked F Porsche to make a new design for the car that would be affordable for most people. Then the war intervened and production was up and down. In 1949 the VW Bug car was introduced in the US and I believe only 2 cars were sold in the year. In the late 50's into the 60's a large advertising campaign helped with the growth of the company. 1910 Burnham & Morrill Fish Flakes Magazine Ad
Burnham & Morrill began in Portland, ME as a canning company for various meats and fruits. Canned corn was particularly hard to can but one of the partners came up with a patent for a corn canning machine and canneries were established all over Maine. In 1900 they introduced canned Fish Flakes from haddock and codfish and it became quite popular in chowders and cod cakes. The company continued to expand and became more famous for their oven baked beans which they continue to produce today in open pots inside brick ovens. Vintage Stinson Plane Magazine Ad
The Stinson Plane Co was founded by Eddie Stinson in 1920 nine years after he learned to fly at the Wright Brothers Flight School. His two sisters were also well known pilots. In 1920 he purchased the Dixie Flying Field in Birmingham Al hoping to open a flight school but he decided to build planes and thus the Stinson Plane Co was born.
