1960 Volkswagen VW Bug Car Magazine Ad

The word Volkswagen means "people car.
" In 1930 cost of cars was an issue in Germany as many cost more than a year's salary. When Hitler came into power in 1938 he asked F Porsche to make a new design for the car that would be affordable for most people. Then the war intervened and production was up and down. In 1949 the VW Bug car was introduced in the US and I believe only 2 cars were sold in the year. In the late 50's into the 60's a large advertising campaign helped with the growth of the company.
